new beginnings... |
myself & a place... |
- The terror and exhilaration of reading the tellers own poems on the stage at the Royal Festival Hall for the first time (and how it was sprung on her unexpectedly).
- Buying two plane tickets one from London to LA and the other from New York to London, with a month in between and nothing planned. One man's journey to learn to relinquish control and the beginning of a new way of living. - Moving back to Crouch End to live with a new partner and discovering that the place was very familiar, predicting what was round the corner, what places looked like etc. only to discover that she had lived there before as a very young child. - The realisation that one man's life was following the predicted path of work, marriage and children, until he decided to leave and follow his dreams. Things fell to bits but were then re-contructed how he wanted them. |
- A holiday romance in Greece with Venus and his subsequent taxi ride from Coventry to London to try and rekindle that island heat.
- The move from home in Devon to university in Newcastle and realising the sun did not always set over the sea - and how damn cold the North Sea is! - Years living in London, moving dozens and dozens of time (six times in one year!), the host of boyfriends, friends and strangers met along the way and the irony of now ending up living in Gipsy Hill. - A small flat in Derry in the 80's and the worry of keeping a small child safe from a low window only to discover that the military would park their 'pigs' opposite and use that same window for sight practice. - As a 5 year old in Ghana being swept under by the huge rollers on the coast and not being concerned that she might die and later being told that she had been born with a caul and so felt protected by the myth. - A knock on a hotel window at night. 22 floors up! - Moving to Cannes, running out of money & winning 5 grand on the horses. When you can speak no French! - Sunrise at a tea plantation in the Himalayas. |
