why stories? |
what is it? |
Stories are how we make sense of the world and the people around us. We grow up listening to stories helping us to assess and make judgements and decisions. We spend our days hearing and seeing stories in newspapers and on television or in the cinema and sometimes forget that we to have stories to tell ourselves, stories that should be heard and that once spoken bring clarity.
As children we meet the world through stories, by telling and listening... why should we stop? This monthly event is an opportunity to start telling and listening to stories again. "I attended this event and it was a great evening. Lots of funny, sad and moving stories. An evening full of laughter and good company. I can't wait for the next one".

What's Your Story? is an evening of shared stories- funny, sad, thoughtful, absurd, crazy - all true and all told by the people who come along. They can be anything from a few minutes to ten minutes long and told however the teller wishes to share them. They can use poems, bring along props, music, however they want to share that particular experience . The only condition it must be in some way connect to the evening’s theme which is chosen and publicised a month or so before the event.
Some participants prefer to simply sit and listen, and that’s encouraged. However, often when people hear others telling their stories, they are inspired and contribute themselves. These events are not about performing but about real people and real stories shared in an informal atmosphere. We look to run these evenings in relaxed cafe/bar type environments where people can relax, eat and socialise afterwards. Our experience has shown it is a great way for people to meet, unpressurised, fun and very often moving.
